EDUCATION: Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey-backed Bitcoin non-profit funding new developers in Africa (2 minute read)
₿trust, the Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey-backed non-profit focused on fostering developer talent, is launching the ₿trust Africa Open Source Cohort to develop and educate new developers in Africa. The project will pay individuals to learn how to build on the Bitcoin ecosystem and the first fellow selected is Vladimir Fomene. ₿trust’s long-term vision is to continue expanding similar programs through the global south.
CDBC: Central African regional bank to implement the first regional CDBC (1 minute read)
The Bank of Central African States, the central bank for Cameroon, Gabon, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and the Central African Republic (CAR), is planning to introduce a regional CBDC in response to the CAR’s adoption of bitcoin as legal tender. The bank’s board is urging its member states to adopt a common digital currency to modernize its payment structures and promote financial inclusion.

METAVERSE: South Korean healthcare metaverse to use SOLVE token as payment (2 minute read)
South Korea’s Metaverse Doctors Alliance, a trade group to promote the use of the metaverse for healthcare, is working with Solve.Care, a healthcare relationship management platform company, in its upcoming metaverse clinic. Under the agreement, the clinic will use Solve.Care’s wallet and token, SOLVE, as currency. The MDA is planning to launch the metaverse clinic in early 2023.
USE CASE: Major Japanese chemicals manufacturer launching blockchain recycling pilot (2 minute read)
Japan’s DIC Corporation has announced that they are launching a pilot with GreenToken by SAP involving recycled plastic inputs. GreenToken uses the Quorum blockchain by Consensys to trace raw materials for recycling purposes. DIC will use GreenToken to track products through the entire supply chain and recycling process.

ACQUISITION: Spain’s largest exchange Bit2Me acquires Peruvian crypto exchange, expansion set to continue (1 minute read)
Bit2Me, the largest crypto exchange in Spain, acquired an 85% stake in Peruvian exchange Fluyez. The amount is estimated at being greater than $1mm USD. However, an exact amount was not disclosed. Bit2Me is aggressively expanding in Latin America via acquisition and looking for targets between $1-20mm.
REGULATION: Paraguay’s regulatory framework awaiting president’s signature (1 minute read)
Paraguay is the latest Latin American country with a crypto regulatory framework, which is pending approval by the country’s president. The framework will set up a tax regime, require individual and corporate miners to obtain a license to operate and an approval for industrial energy consumption. A registry of service providers of third party crypto trading and custody services will also be established.

TOKENIZATION: First palladium-backed cryptoasset launched in Russia (2 minute read)
The Russian unit of Swiss-based commodities tokenization firm, Atomyze, launched the first palladium-backed cryptoasset in Russia with palladium provided by Russian miner Nornickel. Holders of the tokens will have a monetary claim equivalent to the market value of the metal. Atomyze uses the Hyperledger Fabric enterprise blockchain.
UKRAINE WAR: NFT sales will fund the restoration of Ukraine’s cultural institutions (3 minute read)
Rounding off this week’s newspaper, the Ukrainian government has raised roughly $1.3mm (803.28 ETH) in NFT sales to fund the restoration costs of damaged Ukrainian cultural sites because of Russia’s invasion and war. Funds were raised via the government-sponsored Meta History Museum of War, a NFT museum to preserve major events in Russia’s war with Ukraine.
