Through tokenization of carbon credits made by Moss on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, GOL Linhas Aéreas and CVC promoted on Tuesday (06/7) the first 100% carbon neutral corporate flight within the trajectory of both. the companies. The flight took place between the international airport of Guarulhos (GRU) and Maceió (MCZ).

The carbon footprint of the flight was calculated by Moss and CVC assumed the cost of carbon offsetting flights to Maceió and back to Guarulhos, thus neutralizing the total emissions on this exclusive route between the capitals of São Paulo and Alagoas.

The digital certificate will be delivered to the company after the flights. With the initiative, the amount invested in CO2 compensation will be 100% reverted to certified projects to support the conservation of the Amazon Forest.

“Firstly, I would like to congratulate CVC, a strong partner of GOL, for half a century of activities that were and are fundamental to the development of tourism in Brazil. Crowning this very important moment with this first 100% carbon neutral flight proves that we live in the now and look to the future of travel with an attentive eye on the impacts of commercial aviation on the environment and on the planet”, says Renzo Mello, Sales Channels director at GOAL.

According to calculations made by Moss, round trip flights between São Paulo (GRU) and Maceió (MCZ) are responsible for the emission of approximately 44 tons of CO2. Therefore, to generate the 44 carbon credits needed for offsetting, the equivalent of 276 trees were preserved and 44 MCO2 tokens were purchased.

“This action allows us to disseminate good practices for a world that is more respectful of the environment, and the fact that it is an unprecedented action with GOL, for the first corporate flight of CVC, fills us with joy”, celebrates Leonel Andrade, president of CVC Corp.

Carbon footprint

Since June 2021, GOL has had a partnership with Moss, within the #MeuVooCompensa program, which offsets the carbon footprint of the company’s flights. Carbon offsetting on GOL’s domestic and international flights is carried out through MCO2.

According to GOL, erasing the carbon footprint of a trip on the Rio-São Paulo air shuttle costs an average of R$6 (round trip). To do so, GOL Customers only need to use the calculator available on the GOL and Moss websites and purchase the corresponding compensation in MCO2 to neutralize their individual carbon emissions on Congonhas-Santos Dumont-Congonhas flights, with the right to a certificate.

In 2021, GOL, also in partnership with Moss, presented the first two 100% carbon neutral routes in Brazil: in September, Recife-Fernando de Noronha-Recife, and in December, Congonhas-Bonito-Congonhas. Noronha and Bonito are Brazilian destinations recognized for the practice of sustainability and respect for the environment.

In the case of the two 100% carbon neutral routes (as well as the corporate flight with CVC), GOL and Moss assume the cost of the total carbon offset and donate to Customers and crew the individual carbon footprint offset certificate, neutralizing the total emissions.

In addition, there is an invitation, if it is in the passengers’ interest, to buy MCO2 to neutralize the other sections that make up their trips.
