What progress and challenges does the Lightning Network have?

Within the framework of the 2021 edition of Blockchain Summit Latam, the panel “Progress and Challenges of Lightning Network“. The Lightning Network developer, Francisco Calderón, the Galoy developer, Juan López, and the LN developer and product owner Maurice Poirrier at Buda.com participated.

Javier Bastardo spoke about how it was in the beginning, with which the panelists also recalled about the history and development of LN.

Francisco Calderón expressed: “Much work has been done on the user experience. Much more has been thought about the user ”.

Then he remarked that LN introduced the possibility that bitcoin can be used to buy anything at any time, and not just something like something “to hold”, invest at risk or for people in the IT sector.

“Since we have been with LN, from the beginning we saw the immediacy it gives you. You don’t have to wait for confirmation or learn what a mempool is, etc. The work on user experience is what got so much talk about the Lightning Network today, he added.

Maurice Poirrier also highlighted the work that was done to be “user friendly”.

“Several exchanges and applications are taking it into account as a form of payment,” he said. And then he highlighted the trend that payment channels will exist between the same exchanges with money mobility “more expeditious and easy for users.”

In this context, Poirrier considered that the network will continue to grow. However, he said that we are still “in diapers.”

The network will continue to grow.

Juan López, for his part, spoke about his experience as a developer, about some implementations that are being carried out but that are not yet standard, hoping that there will be more adoption.

Looking to the future Porrier commented: “I would like to see that we could start thinking about subscriptions as LN. To be able to explain to a parent or a grandparent that they can use this ”.
