“User experience needs to improve for play to earn games to grow” | blocknews

Games need to be as diverse as Netflix, says Sandbox executive.

Despite the frenetic growth of the play to earn games market in 2021, one of the challenges for this expansion to continue is to improve the player experience. “Users are mostly men over 30 with a strong tech background. It’s a niche population. But to be more accessible, you have to make it simpler,” said Katleen Evers, head of The Sandbox game developer fund, during Ethereum Rio.

“Everyone thinks about infrastructure. But the barriers will decrease when the sector thinks about the accessibility of platforms”, said João Borges, co-founder of Bayz. And in that, looking at the user experience on mobile “is key”, he added, during the “Games and Metaverse Updates” panel. Ethereum Rio is the first event of its kind on technology in Brazil and takes place from the 11th to the 20th.

Another point is that Web 3 games, as they are called, are also inclusive, said the CEO of Kokku, Thiago de Freitas. “Diversification is very important. If we offer the same experience to everyone, it is always the same population that will have access. Web 3 has to be like Netflix, have offers for everyone, that is, have options like social hubs, art galleries and games,” said Katleen.

And you need to have fun, according to Vinicius Ribeiro, expansion leader at Cartesi. “Fun is key because only playing to win is work.”

All speakers agreed that Web 3 games are not going to do away with traditional games, because there is room for everyone. Games are important for Web3, not the other way around,” said Borges.

Regarding the movement of large companies like Sony and Microsoft to buy companies in the area, Freitas considers that they are looking for users and not integration or collaboration. “If you share your user base, the company loses market value. So what they want is to gain users and increase their value. It’s a consolidation movement,” he said.
