MEXICO CITY, May 9 – PRIME. The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, said that the government of the country bought another 500 bitcoins “on a drawdown” for the national cryptocurrency fund.
“El Salvador just bought on a drawdown! 500 coins at an average price of $30,744,” the politician wrote on his blog.
The first government purchase of bitcoin in El Salvador in the amount of 400 bitcoins took place in September last year at a price of $51,353, in total, the authorities publicly announced such purchases ten times. According to analysts in the local media, the total volume of purchases to date is about 2301 bitcoins.
The losses of the El Salvadoran government, which spent more than $100 million on the purchase of cryptocurrency, are now estimated at $30 million due to a significant decrease in its rate.
