Now who launches the token fan is Santos. The team from São Paulo will launch, next Tuesday (26), its cryptocurrency. In this case, whoever buys will have remuneration based on the transfer values of 12 players from the Meninos da Vila group, including Neymar Jr.. The Bitcoin Digital Assets Market (MBDA) has turned these rights into tokens.
This remuneration refers to the solidarity mechanism of the International Football Federation (Fifa). By this mechanism, up to 5% of each player transfer must be returned to the club that formed him between 12 and 23 years of age. Thus, whenever there is a costly transfer of these 12 players, there will be remuneration.
There will be around 600 thousand of the Santos token, at a cost of R$50 in the initial offer, for a total of R$30 million. It will, therefore, be another recipe for PelĂ© and Neymar Jr.’s team, which in 2020 reached one of its worst financial crises. Debts reached R$572 million, with a good part maturing this year, and a falling billing that reached R$175 million.
Thus, Santos joins a group of teams such as São Paulo, Corinthians, Cruzeiro and Atlético Minas Gerais that have launched tokens. And that follow an international movement that includes, for example, Roma, Barcelona and Paris Saint-German (PSG). However, not everyone gives the same rights. There are some who offer, for example, the right to vote in certain matters of the club to which the token is held.
Token can help Santos settle his scores
According to Rafael Soares, Santos FC’s marketing executive, the solidarity mechanism is an opportunity to bring for sure a revenue that was once uncertain for the Club”. “We have the support of our huge fans so that the product is a success and we can follow this path of financial restructuring”, he added.
The 12 players covered by the Santos token are Alan Patrick (Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine), Alex Sandro (Juventus from Turin), Caio Henrique and Jean Lucas from Monaco (France), Emerson Palmieri, (Olympique Lyon), Gabriel Barbosa and Gustavo Henrique do Flamengo, Kaio Jorge (Juventus, Italy), Lucas VerĂssimo (Benfica, Portugal), Neymar Jr. (Paris Saint-Germain); Rodrygo Goes (Real Madrid) and Yuri Alberto (International, Brazil).
For Ronaldo Faria, director of MBDA, “Token da Vila should attract not only Santos fans. “Santos has always maintained this tradition of revealing stars, such as those in the token, and this greatly strengthens the proposal of our product,” he said. Companies believe that the basket of players is the differential of this token, especially in 2022, with the World Cup.
Demystifying token is one of the challenges, says lawyer
According to the lawyer Rodrigo Borges, a partner at CB Associados and who supported tokenization, one of the great challenges in these cases is to demystify the matter. This is because it is a very recent fundraising modality. “Furthermore, it is essential to review the structure of the tokens and any rights they represent, so that we can be sure that they are not characterized as a security”, he added.
If a token is seen by the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) as a security, that is, a financial investment that generates remuneration, it cannot operate in the country yet.
In the first four months of the Vila Token’s primary offer, the token will cost R$50.00 each. After that, the secondary market will start, so the market’s supply and demand is worth in setting the price. Purchase is through the website www.tokendavila.com.br .
