Putin obliges election participants to report on the purchase of cryptocurrency

MOSCOW, April 1 – PRIME. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law obliging election candidates to disclose information on the acquisition of digital financial assets (DFA) and digital currency. The text of the law is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The document amends the following laws:

  • on the elections of the President of Russia and deputies of the State Duma,
  • procedure for the formation of the Federation Council,
  • political parties,
  • combating corruption,
  • control over the correspondence of the expenses of state officials to their incomes,
  • on the basic guarantees of electoral rights and the right to participate in a referendum of citizens of the Russian Federation.

The law obliges candidates participating in elections to provide information about their expenses, expenses of their spouse (spouse) and minor children for each transaction for the acquisition of CFA and digital currency for the last three years, if the transaction amount exceeds the total income of the candidate and his wife (spouse) for three years prior to the deal. At the same time, information about the sources of funds for such a transaction should also be provided.

The law comes into force 10 days after its official publication.
