The seduction of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) seems to have really won the heart of the star Neymar Jr.. This week, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player, who this week acquired another NFT from the Mutant Ape Yacht (MAY) collection, and paid 55 ETH, which is equivalent to around BRL 800 thousand.
Who should be happy with the player’s new craze is the company, Yuga Labs, creator of the Mutant Ape Yacht, derived from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection, of which Neymar already owns two NFTs. According to information from Rarity Tools, the MAY#10953 that Neymar Jr. bought is the 1,757th rarest of the entire collection that started with 10,000 tokens, circulates today with 18,711 and can reach 20,000.
The launch of the BAYC collection took place on April 23, 2021. Of the approximately 10,000 Bored Apes, around 500 pleased buyers. But after a week of this slow pre-sale, on the morning of the following May 1, the collection ended. “That night, BAYC was the most used smart contract on the ethereum network. Our Discord has gone from a totally dead place to the hottest place in crypto,” the company says.
Madonna bought NFT for 80 ETH
Last March, Yuga announced the purchase of the intellectual property of the Larva Labs CryptoPunks and Meetbits NFTs collections. Therefore, it retained the trademarks, art copyright and other intellectual property rights of the two collections. So, he got the rights to 423 CryptoPunks and 1711 Meebits.
In January, Neymar had already purchased NFTs from Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). There were two of the 10,000 tokens available for a total of around BRL 6 million. For token number 5269, it paid R$3.4 million, while for token number 6633, R$2.7 million. On ethereum, it was 350 ETH.
Yuga Labs collections are on the shopping list of many famous people who have joined the NFT wave. Madonna, for example, bought a BAYAC for 80 ETH, equivalent at that time to BRL 2.7 million. The bored little monkeys also seduced rapper Eminem, who bought his NFT for around R$2.6 million. Singer Justin Bieber paid 500 ETH, or R$ 7 million in January, for his NFT.
