Facing competition from exchanges like Binance and the FTX, two titans of the cryptocurrency market, and become a global cryptocurrency exchange with at least one million users on its platform in the first year of operations. This is the ambitious goal of Digitra.com, a crypto exchange which starts operating in June and was founded by businessman Rodrigo Batista, co-founder of Mercado Bitcoin.
According to information published by the Valor, Digitra.com has just received a contribution of US$ 5 million (approximately R$ 25 million) from Profitus Participações, an investment company owned by Ricardo Vilella Marino, who is heir to Itaú and one of the main partners in the bank’s controlling holding company.
The resources contributed by Profitus will be invested in the expansion of technology teams, marketing and other initiatives of the holding, still in the formation process, which will control Digitra, according to Batista.
To Valor, the businessman said that:
“When I first talked to Ricardo, security was one of the main issues. It was a conversation between someone from the traditional financial market and us, who come from this crypto universe, but our common idea was to create ways for these two worlds to coexist well. He has already taken care of this part of Itaú and will be able to bring insights into it.”
Digitra.com confirmed the listing of Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and USDC stablecoin, in addition to 12 products that can be deposited for custody, including Solana (SUN) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE).
The custody will be made by the bank BNY Mellon, based in New York, the largest custodian of financial assets in the world, with US$ 2.4 trillion under management. What Digitra highlights as a strategic partnership in order to offer up to 500 coins on the trading platform, although the exchange has stressed that the initial goal is to reach 200, in a sustainable way. Regarding the fee, the exchange informed that it should maintain a commission between 0.1% and 0.2%, a level similar to what is practiced by Binance.
Although it has informed that it will not list non-fungible tokens (NFTs) at first, another front that should be covered by the brokerage is that of asset tokenization, including carbon and energy credits, since secondary market provider Átris, another company in the Digitra.com group, has the technology to create new “exchanges” of assets.
Digitra.com’s announcement coincides with some possible movements related to the cryptocurrency market in Brazil, among them the meetings between the president of the Central Bank with Coinbase and with Binance, in addition to the possible urgent vote on the Bill that regulates cryptocurrencies in the country, as reported by the Cointelegraph Brazil.
