Fans of the São Paulo tricolor will need to wait a little longer for the release of the São Paulo Futebol Clube (SPFC) fan token. According to the club, the release date will be the next 9th of November and no longer the next 3rd (Wednesday). The reason, according to the team’s Twitter profile, is the high demand for the $SPFC.
The launch will be on the Socios.com platform, which already has teams such as Corinthians, Paris Saint-German and Juventus da Italia. São Paulo informed that the agreement for the issue and sale of fan tokens will last for five years, until 2026. In addition, the club will insert the Sócios.com brand on its shirts, “on the front/escudeto line”. It did not explain whether this exposure of the partner on the shirts could give the club a greater share of the token profit sharing.
Neither the club nor Socios gave much details about the São Paulo fan token, such as what rights the cryptoactive holders will have. However, in its statement, the São Paulo club explained that “tokens are collectible digital assets that provide owners with access to voting rights in polls, VIP rewards, exclusive promotions, AR-enabled features, chat forums, games and competitions on Socios.com.”
Fan tokens will be another recipe for São Paulo
So, it may be that SPFC fan tokens follow this line of engagement. This is different from tokens such as Santos and Coritiba, which are related to the solidarity mechanism. This means that each time certain players are sold throughout their careers, the club receives up to 5% of the transfer amount. And pass part to whoever has the tokens. They are players that clubs formed when they were between 12 and 23 years old. This is the rule of the International Football Federation (Fifa).
Whatever the model of the tokens, they are always a way for clubs to earn extra income. Which comes at a good time, because crisis is something common in the world of football. São Paulo, for example, is not new that it is in a series of crises and even had to postpone commitments in 2022.
“The entry of São Paulo into a universe in expansion is yet another initiative that demonstrates the leading role we want back in the club”, said the president of São Paulo, Julio Casares, in the announcement of the fan token.
“São Paulo is a big name in football, not only in Brazil, but all over the world. It is our privilege to welcome you on board”, said Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO Chiliz and Socios.com .
