Brazilian NGO Gerando Falcões launches game to take the favela to the metaverse

The NGO Gerando Falcões wants to make the metaverse an environment to advance with educational initiatives that can contribute to the eradication of poverty and the social transformation of needy communities.

The first initiative of the NGO created by Edu Lyra in the new emerging virtual environments is the game “Missão Favela X“, recently launched at an event held in Favela dos Sonhos, in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, municipality of Greater São Paulo, this Thursday, 5th, per the report by Exame.

“Missão Favela X” aims to make children and young people from all social classes and regions in Brazil aware of the enormous challenges to be faced to eradicate poverty and promote citizenship in an increasingly unequal country, says Lyra:

“Many people know the favela only through the car window, and now players of all classes and regions will face, through their computer or cell phone screens, disorders that vulnerable people face in their daily realities. There are almost 14,000 favelas in Brazil, and this is the great chance we have to do something that can change the future of its residents, especially the future of children and young people”.

Infrastructure and basic sanitation projects are fundamental, but they need to be complemented with initiatives for access to education, culture and technology. Lyra believes that the ability to mobilize and engage needy communities can be leveraged through digital devices and platforms.

Gerando Falcões works to promote long-term social impact initiatives in favelas across the country, focusing on education, entrepreneurship, economic development, culture and citizenship projects.

As Cointelegraph Brasil recently reported, the Brazilian NFT project “Space Backpackers Crew” will allocate part of the funds raised from the sale of the collection to support educational projects focused on training in new technologies for young people and adults in situations of social vulnerability.
