Argentina will address digital economy at G20 ministerial meeting

This August 5, in Italy, the Ministerial Meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group was held, which addressed issues related to access to technologies, the digitization of States, Industry 4.0 among other issues of unquantifiable importance today, and Argentina is present addressing these issues that influence the economy digital.

Trieste is the venue for this G20 meeting; and The priorities to be developed on this occasion go hand in hand with the UN Sustainable Development Goals focused on the economy, social development and the environment. For which the Argentine delegation has a wide range of experts from different ministries and agencies.

The Digital Economy Group (DETF) has developed a schedule since December 2020 based on two fundamental axes: the Digital Economy and the government Digital. Within this axis, the countries part of the group were proposing their projects and ideas for digital transformation, turning the efforts of the meetings and working groups on artificial intelligence for SMEs, the promotion of innovation to smart cities, connectivity and social inclusion.

Point of great emphasis in this pandemic, since since the beginning of the Coronavirus It migrated from the presence to the virtuality in an exponential way, and this revealed many situations, it was revealed how the less developed, poor and conflict countries have limited or no connectivity in some cases. For this reason, organizations such as Unesco have been placing special emphasis on the democratization of connectivity, taking as a starting point that every child counts, and that every connection is necessary beyond being a purely societal issue.

In addition, work has been done on aspects of digital identity, for this it is necessary to unify criteria that allow a secure cross-border flow of information through networks such as the Blockchain, that allows interoperability and security data uploading at a global level, helping to combat identification problems and ultimately to prevent trafficking in infants and people in general.

Although the group focuses its efforts on issues related to the digital economy, the reality is that at this time the world is increasingly connected. The digital economy should not be confused with a question related to the financial system, actually the digitization of a State is about the economy, how to implement new technologies that allow the updating of an inadequate and expensive infrastructure.

Each turn to digitization is about an aspect to improve, times, costs and results, that is why new technologies have taken such an important role for more than a decade, but the pandemic has made these innovations no longer a utopia and they are verifiable projects, some still to be developed, others in testing stages and others in full operation.

Argentina, for its part, has actively participated in the work meetings and the Forum on Connectivity and Social Inclusion that took place on April 12, 2021, in which the Connect Plan was expanded, but in addition to that, it worked on the Forum on the Protection and Awareness of consumers and blockchain for the traceability of the digital economy, held on May 6 and finally participated in the Forum on Digital Transformation in production for sustainable growth.

This meeting will have sessions on digital transformation for economic recovery; Society in the digital economy; Enabling digital transformation and Digital Government.
