Central Bank to discuss technology to issue digital real

Digital real: BC wants to use tools like smart contracts for flexibility.

The Central Bank (BC) will discuss technologies for issuing the digital real in the last webinar on its digital currency, which will take place this Tuesday (30). BC president Roberto Campos Neto said he would like the broadcast to be blockchain. In addition, the institution is in the use of decentralized finance (DeFi), which takes place in this technology, as anticipated by Blocknews. However, he has not yet made a decision.

The event is open to the public and will take place on BC’s YouTube channel from 11am to 12:30pm. It will therefore be the longest so far. ConsenSys’ product manager, Matthieu Saint Olive, Ricardo Correia, global head of digital currencies at R3, and Seidemann Wolfram, executive director of G+D Currency Technology, will participate. The moderation will be Aristides Andrade Cavalcante Neto, deputy head of BC’s IT Department.

The three companies are involved in solutions for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and have participated in other digital real webinars. The R3, for example, is in the Sweden project. G + D works on projects such as Thailand and Ghana. And like ConsenSys, it is among the finalists of BC Singapore’s CBDC Global Challenge, which is one of the most active in studying the topic.

Digital real test starts in early 2022

BC will begin testing the digital real between late March and early April, according to current forecasts. However, the use of the currency should only start in 2024. Meanwhile, the institution is studying several points and talking with technology projects and payment companies.

As also anticipated by Blocknews, BC studies, for example, Visa’s offline solution and Mastercard’s solution for real types. Both are involved in cryptos and CBDC projects to integrate these currencies into their payment platforms.

The webinar broadcast Technologies for emission and compatibility with existing arrangements it will be in português e English.
