99% of Mexicans cannot pass a basic crypto assessment, according to cryptoliteracy.org

CryptoLiteracy.org, recently announced, the results of the inaugural YouGou-powered survey of “Literacy cryptocurrencies”, which consisted of 17 questions with related content about the blockchain, cryptocurrencies, De-Fi, bitcoin, NFT, virtual wallets and other aspects related to the cryptographic ecosystem.

The survey yielded the result of the questionnaire that assesses basic knowledge about cryptocurrencies, it reflected that 96% of Americans and 96% of web users of Brazilian and Mexican origin who have knowledge about digital currencies or about the bitcoinBTC), they were not able to pass the assessment.

The questionnaire that the organization hosts on its website, is prepared so that all people worldwide can test their cryptographic knowledge and in turn, can identify their weaknesses on their understanding of the ecosystem and can improve it, using the courses selected by CoinDesk.

The ‘Crypto survey’

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,000 users of Internet in each country, with knowledge of digital currencies or bitcoin, which were classified by age, gender and degree of education, in the particular case of the EE.UU, the classification was carried out by race / ethnicity. It consisted of 17 questions that allowed to evaluate the knowledge in different aspects of the cryptographic sector.

The results broadly reflect that there is a marked and significant knowledge gap about digital currencies, as well as that the adoption rates are fairly similar in all the states where the survey was carried out, reflecting 14% in Mexico, 15% Brazil, 17% EE.UU.

In the United States, four out of ten people surveyed were unable to answer at least more than half of the questions, choosing “I don’t know” as an option in their answers. However, these consumers reflected having a better performance than the rest of the participants, having a third of the questions of the questionnaire answered correctly.

“There is a real need for accessible crypto education that everyone can understand regardless of income, gender, race, or educational status. Crypto Literacy Month is an important initiative, and we have selected content specifically designed for those with beginning, intermediate or expert knowledge ”, said Ollie Leech, editor de Learn en CoinDesk.

The indicators that were taken into account to carry out the survey, showed that in the three countries, the owners of digital currencies or bitcoins, are on average younger, richer and more men than in the general population , which shows that adoption is not egalitarian, so that greater economic inclusion has not yet been achieved. Also, it was evidenced that owning cryptocurrencies in the surveyed countries is related to a higher performance in “a cryptocurrency literacy test”.

In the same way, it can be verified that the understanding of the fundamentals of bitcoin is low, only four out of ten respondents had knowledge about the price of bitcoin. 30% of Brazilian consumers and 28% of Mexicans expressed their intention to buy and sell digital currencies in the next six months, compared to 12% of US citizens.

Likewise, the organization was able to conclude through the survey that geographic space and generation play a predominant role in the use of cryptocurrencies, given this 25% of Brazilians and a third of Mexicans reported that they would use cryptocurrencies to pay for goods and services, otherwise it happens with Americans, 50% said they would use digital currencies as a means of saving for the future.
