The local Congress of Quintana Roo in Cancun, Mexico withdrew the startup from the use of Blockchain in the local public administration, considering that the encryption system is too expensive and highly overqualified, according to information released by FIFTH FORCE on October 11, 2021 on its web portal.
The Government of Cancun stated that it did not renew the contract for Blockchain because it is very expensive and unnecessary to maintain legislative documents in a secure and transparent way, information confirmed by Eduardo Martínez Arcila, president of the Board of government and Political Coordination (Jugocopo).
The state Congress reported that The Blockchain system that it installed just in March this year had the function of archiving the documents of the legislative system, in an encrypted way. However, after seven months of use, they have noticed that the technology solution is “overqualified” for their needs.
The local authorities report that the technology was deactivated this week and they returned with the conventional system because “they no longer saw the difference when using the blockchain system”; since the information stored was public.
Eduardo Galaviz, president, of the Quintana Roo legislative observatory, commented that it was a good decision to suspend the service for the control and security of initiatives, since it was very little functional for the needs of the congress and due to various irregularities, which were found in said contract.
The authorities reported that the contract of the provider of the blockchain system expired in August and to renew it had a cost of 600,000 Mexican pesos (USD 290,000 dollars) and that it was not renewed due to an embezzlement of funds from the last administration that hired the system.
The congress took as measures, that from now on whoever presents an initiative will obtain a QR code that when scanned will take them to the site where they can consult and validate the required document, through the correspondence and file management system,
This procedure, as indicated, will make it easier for users and public entities to manage the documents directed by the legislative power, as well as their reception and issuance.
On March 1, Avalanche pointed out in his blog official as a great achievement, the implementation of its blockchain technology in the Congress of Quintana Roo, Cancun, in the Aztec country; thus becoming the first entity of its kind to implement this technology for document management.
