The inclusion of the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin in this group recognizes not only what happened this year, but the history of the boy who, since he was little, his school identified him as gifted. In addition to the choice admitting that its impact in the future will be great.
At the end of 2013, at the age of 19, the Russian programmer who lives in Canada proposed the network in a white-paper. After the white paper signed with the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, which laid the foundations for blockchain and bitcoin, Vitalik Butalik is the biggest revolutionary in this ecosystem. His creation, Ethereum, is expected to have an impact on the world that even today we cannot fully imagine.
Buterin is in the Innovators category on Time’s list. Ethereum was born from its perception that the bitcoin network had flaws and one of them is that it should go beyond cryptocurrency transactions. It should, for example, handle business transactions.

The creator of venture capital fund Seven Seven Six and co-founder and former president of social media network Reddit, Alexis Ohanian, said, “What makes Vitalik so special is that he is a builder builder. Nobody could come up with all the uses of Ethereum. But it took a person’s idea to get it started. From then on, a new world opened up and created space for new ways of using blockchain technology”.
The executive recalls that the Ethereum network reached a market cap of US$ 400 billion. Today, its uses include decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), for example. The general view of the first is that it is a strong competitor to the traditional financial system, which could adopt it. Even the Central Bank of Brazil looks to DeFi as an inspiration for the digital real.
NFTs, on the other hand, have so many uses that it’s virtually impossible to make a complete list of them. However, companies, for example, have certainly already found a marketing tool in them.
