On Wednesday non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Nifty Gateway announced that it has partnered with Korean electronics company Samsung to develop a smart TV NFT platform. Launched in 2018, Nifty Gateway was one of the first NFT marketplaces and was acquired in 2019 by the cryptocurrency exchange Geminiowned by the Winklevoss twins.
The platform will allow users to browse, purchase, and trade digital art and collectible NFTs on some of Samsung’s premium smart TV product lines. Over 6,000 art pieces will be available from artists such as BeepleDaniel Arsham, and Pak.
“Nifty Gateway’s mission is to bring NFTs to a billion people by empowering creators and simplifying the way customers buy, sell, create, and hold NFTs. We are committed to making NFTs accessible and NFT purchasing more seamless than ever before,” said Duncan Cock Foster, co-founder of Nifty Gateway. “With our mission in mind, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Samsung to develop a groundbreaking NFT collecting experience.”
Nifty Gateway’s announcement comes after Samsung said in January that it planned to release a smart TV product line with NFT integration.
Samsung has previously invested in blockchain companies, including NBA Top Shot creator Dapper Labs and Animoca Brands’ play-to-earn game The SandBox.
In February, another Korean electronics company LG announced that it was also releasing an NFT platform for its smart TVs in association with Korean blockchain Klaytn. Last week at LG’s annual general meeting the company added blockchain and crypto-assets to its corporate activities.
