iCoLab: blockchain research association, decides to be ICT

Blockchain in iCoLab: As an ICT, it will be possible to receive funding for research.

iCoLab, which started as a collaborative association for scientific research and education of new technologies, but with a special focus on blockchain for business, decided to become a Institute of Science and Technology – ICT. Thus, it will be able to have access to financial resources for innovation through tax incentives and other sources of public resources in the country. “It will be the first blockchain institute with research, knowledge and project execution,” Sandra Heck, president and co-founder of iCoLab, told Blocknews.

The decision came at a meeting of the IcoLab assembly this week. Thus, the statute has already changed and the institution is carrying out the internal governance procedures to operate in the new model. However, it is necessary to wait for the ICT qualification process by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT).

The iCoLab is a non-profit institution and all funds raised today go to education, project development and community of interest and sustainability of iCoLab. In addition, the assembly approved a new management, which takes over on March 29 for two years.

With the funds raised, IcoLab wants to “work hard on anticipating trends and demands in R&D&I projects”, according to a statement from the institution. Projects may be for the private or public sector. The focus should be more on the finance, agribusiness and health industries.

“We remain a collaborative science, technology and innovation hub formed by people and organizations that connect and collaborate to research, design and deliver business models using blockchain as an engine for this new economy.”

One of the characteristics of iCoLab is to be multidisciplinary, therefore, with professionals from areas such as legal, innovation and management.
